Nicole Thompson, LVT

I was born and raised in the country outside of Levelland, TX. Faith, family, and animals have always been staples in my life. I am very close with my family and always had lots of animals growing up- from dogs and cats to horses, goats, sheep, and rabbits.

I attended South Plains College after completing high school and obtained my general education credits before transferring to the Midland College Veterinary Technology Program. I graduated in 2010 and after taking my state and national board exams, I received my Registered Veterinary Technician license in 2012. Our licensing has recently changed and I am now a Licensed Veterinary Technician through the state of Texas. I became an LVT because I not only love animals, but I love seeing a puppy grow up happy and healthy, or a Parvo case improve and survive the fight, or a surgical patient rehabilitate post-operatively.

I joined AABPCH in February 2012 as a surgical technician after moving back to the area after college and in March 2013, I became the hospital's Practice Manager. My responsibilities include all day to day operations and staff, as well as ensuring client satisfaction. I chose to work at Above & Beyond because of the amazing care offered by all of the talented and caring doctors and staff. Also, for the amazing opportunity to work with the very talented and deeply missed, Dr. J. I feel that this hospital is a great place to continue gaining knowledge and experience every day and we provide the best possible care for all of our patients.

I have a very close knit family, who are for the most part in and around Levelland, including my mother, father, sister, brother-in-law, niece and grandmother. They all really enjoy animals and each have pets. I have two dogs and two cats. Annabelle, a miniature Australian Shepherd, is my pride and joy, and she does not realize that she is a dog. She is very intelligent and knows quite a few tricks. She loves to come to work with me and meet new friends. Talulah is a toy Australian Shepherd who loves to cuddle on the couch. I have a Persian cat, Mocha. She is 6 years old and still plays like she is a kitten.

When I am not at work, you can usually find me with my family and my pets. Every chance I got to see my grandmother, Sycily, I would take it! Unfortunately, in the early summer of 2014 I lost my Grandmother at 94 years young. She is a true source of love and joy in my life and is missed every moment of my day. After a long day at work, I love to spend time with my furry kids and listen to music, relax, and study God's word. I love to share my knowledge with pet parents in my spare time by providing personal in-home behavior training for their pets.

Thanks for reading about me and my interests! I hope to see you and your pet very soon. God Bless!

When I was younger, my Mom asked me to think of a job that I would love to do, and all I could come up with was working with animals. In High School, I started working at a vet clinic where I grew up in New Braunfels with the eventual goal of becoming a stock contractor. I loved the veterinary field so much that I changed my mind and decided that vet school would be a much better choice for me. I moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University in 2009, pursuing a degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. I applied for a Veterinary Technician job at Above & Beyond in June of 2009 and have worked part time while attending classes since then.

Being a juvenile diabetic, I like the endocrine cases we see at the clinic. If you have a diabetic animal that is seen at Above & Beyond, chances are very good that you will end up talking with me at some point! One of my favorite cases so far was a cat with chronic ear infections who began having trouble with the eye on the same side as the infected ear. In school, we had just talked about the anatomy of the cranial nerves and how the nerve for your eye travels through the inner ear. It was so cool to put it together that the chronic inflammation in the ear was affecting the cat's eye!

I have 4 siblings and 2 wonderful parents. I am married to Casey, the greatest man I've ever met. He is the barn manager at a hippotherapy center and works with handicapped kids and their families. I have a blue heeler named Trixy, an Aussie named Bandy, and a calico cat named Paisley. I also have a quarter horse and a paint horse. I love to watch rodeo when I am not busy with work and school.

My parents were raised in small towns near San Antonio. They decided it wasn't the place for me so we relocated to Lubbock and from then on I was raised as a city girl! After I graduated from Monterey High School in 2011, I attended West Texas A&M in Canyon, TX for 2 years. I then transferred to Texas Tech because I was so homesick and I missed good old Lubbock. I hope to graduate from Tech with a bachelors in Animal Science in the near future.

One day, I happened to bring in my new puppy Meeko for a well-puppy visit and everyone at the clinic was really friendly. The technician and I talked for a while and when school came up, she suggested I apply for a position. I started working at Above & Beyond in March 2014. I am currently a technician, but I am always eager to help in our pet resort or in reception. My current responsibilities include everything from drawing up vaccines and giving baths to helping other technicians with their needs. I love the sad cases that turn into happy endings! It gives you a chance to see how animals can bounce back from a serious illness to live a great life.

I have a HUGE family, but for the most part it is just me, my sister, and my Mom and Dad. When we aren't all working, we like to sit at home and watch movies together. We have 4 dogs: Meeko is a Malamute/Pyrenees mix; Luna is a Husky/German Shepherd mix and the other two: your guess is as good as mine! They all enjoy relaxing and playing tag in the yard. We also have 2 fish who do fishy things all day.

So far, being a first generation college student is my biggest achievement. My next goal is graduating from Texas Tech! In my spare time, I love to read and I love spending time with my dogs. When I have the chance, I enjoy going out with my friends to catch a movie and dinner.

I was born in Lubbock, TX and grew up in Abernathy. I graduated high school in 2008 and was attending South Plains Community College for photojournalism when I found my love for animals and decided to become a veterinary technician. After attending Vista College and earning my degree as a veterinary technician, I joined Above & Beyond in April 2014. I enjoy it all, spending time monitoring anesthesia in surgery (spays and neuters to more complicated procedures!) and in the exam rooms where I get to know that clients as well as the patients. I love knowing that I helped animal recover: seeing an animal come back from being ill is a very satisfying feeling. I plan to take my test soon to become a Registered Veterinary Technician!

I am very close to my parents and since I do not have kids of my own, my nieces and nephews are my world. I have a big family, including 1 brother, 1 step-brother, and 2 step-sisters. I am the baby of them all :-).

In addition to my love for animals, I also have a love for photography. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. God also has a very important part in my life. Having faith in him is how I get through my day.

I was born in Lubbock. I joined the Pet Resort as a Kennel Assistant in February 2013 and moved to Technician February 2014. This is the first job I have had, and while it involves a lot of work, it also has been a ton of fun: playing with the dogs in Doggie Daycare is exactly as amusing and entertaining as you would think it would be! My dog Rosie is the sweetest Pit Bull you will ever meet. I also have a sweet dog, Susie, from a previous litter of Rosie’s. I have done work with a lot of rescue and foster organizations.

Amanda Paredes, LVT

I was born and raised in Tahoka, TX. I started working as a licensed veterinary technician (LVT) at Above and Beyond on June 10, 2015. I joined the team to grow in knowledge of the veterinary medical field. The reason I was so excited to work at Above and Beyond is that we strive to provide the best and most updated medical care possible and make a pledge to never stop learning. I really want to make a difference in the pet and client’s lives.

Straight out of high school I attended and graduated from Midland College with an Associates of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology. Then I passed the state and national board exams to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Being a technician, I enjoy every case that comes in because it can be like unraveling a mystery and we never quite know what we’ll discover each day when we come to work. I like teaching clients how to better understand their pets.

I am happily married to my high school sweetheart Jonathan. We have two “kids” together, Khloe and Whiskey. Khloe is a spoiled Boston Terrier/Pug mix and Whiskey is a mischievous long haired cat. Jonathan and I both enjoy spending time together, laughing, attending concerts, movies, and going out of town on trips.

When not at work, I like to teach myself new hobbies such as crochet, painting, sewing, and DIY crafts. I enjoy volunteering at my church and attending bible study. I love serving others humbly and without selfishness.

Kassandra Salazar

I was born and raised here in Lubbock, Texas. I graduated from Frenship in 2007 and continued school at Kaplan as a Medical Assistant where I graduated in 2008. I have always been really close to my family and I love to help others as much as I can. A good friend of mine called me one day and told me that Above & Beyond was hiring. I was quick to go online and download an application because I knew it was a chance for me to work in a field I enjoyed. I started working at Above & Beyond as a receptionist in October, 2013.

My role is to help maintain the front office by scheduling appointments and making our patients feel welcome and comfortable during their visit. I really enjoy seeing owners bring in their pets to give them the proper care they need.

I have 3 wonderful children, 2 girls and 1 boy. We really enjoy spending quality time together. My girls enjoy hands on activities and my son loves to play soccer. In 2014 I adopted “Tumbleweed”, a Maltese-mix that a Good Samaritan brought in after he had been hit by a car. He recovered fully from his injuries, including a head tilt. He has become a very important part of our family. I personally enjoy working with different people and helping others when needed. In the future I hope to go back to school for nursing.

Courtney Yelvington

I was born in Memphis, TN and moved to Pasadena, TX at a very young age. I split my childhood between there and Fredericksburg, TX. When I was about 13, my Mom moved us to Lubbock and I have been here ever since.

I grew up with several dogs and cats, and although we never had the space for them, I always wanted horses and cows and pigs! I hadn't had the opportunity to work in a vet clinic before, so getting my foot in the door proved difficult. I settled for working as a waitress at a café. This is where I met Dr. J's husband. Because I seemed to be the only server who could get his order right, Lonny quickly became one of my regulars. One day, Dr. J had lunch with Lonny and she asked me why I was wasting my time working in a restaurant when I could be working for her, so I happily joined the team at Above & Beyond in October 2013.

I am currently a receptionist with hopes of someday training as a technician. I am responsible for making sure your experience at the clinic is a positive one, for both you and your pet. I love anything that you could bring into our doors: young pets, senior pets, things that slither and things that fly. I love them all! This has been (by far!) the best job I have ever had. Who wouldn't love getting to snuggle all the fur babies that come in?

I married my best friend Ty in July of 2010. Between us, we have four children: Oliver, Piper, Ethan, and Elliot. We also have 4 furry babies: Memphis and Nash are both pit bull mixes, June is a tortoiseshell cat, and Sharon is an orange polydactyl cat. We are active members at Lake Ridge Baptist Church and are avid baseball fans (Go Cards!!). We try to plan vacations each summer to Fredericksburg, and I am hoping to eventually visit each state once our kiddos are a bit older.

I joined the Above and Beyond team in September of 2013 as a receptionist. I’ve always had a deep love for animals, which continues to this day. When I first moved to Lubbock from high school, I started working for a local vet as a vet tech. I had known Dr. J for years and my kids had been patients of hers for many years. When I came to visit the clinic I always had such a warm, welcoming feeling and thought it would be great to work at this place! So, despite already having a fulltime job I thought I’d apply and take the plunge. Two years later, I’m still here and absolutely love working with this team. I generally work the evening shift at the clinic, so that provides various opportunities to help outside of my usual reception duties. Working in emergency medicine for many years, I’d have to say emergency cases are my favorite. While I hate to see the circumstances for the animal, I love to be a part of helping these animals and see them recover. Oh, and I love when puppies come in- puppy breath is the greatest smell in the world! Since I’m the “senior” citizen of this team, it’s also been great to share life’s “wisdom” with many of my young co-workers! It’s been a blessing to be able to be there for them in their indecisions about college and all sorts of challenges life has to offer each one of us.

I was born in Albuquerque, NM, but I grew up in El Paso. After high school I came to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech, majoring in Range and Wildlife Management. As most youngsters do, I had to change my major a time or two (or three), but always wanted to be a paramedic. So I got side tracked along the way, returning to El Paso for my training, and working EMS. The college bug returned and I landed back in Lubbock to finish school (probably on my 4th major by now). I continued to work in a local emergency room to support myself while going to school, finally graduating from Tech with a BS in 1994. Not long after graduation I started working for the fine State of Texas, where I continue my fulltime employment. I’m 5 years from retirement, woo hoo! Other than a brief relocation to Colorado, I returned to Lubbock and this has become home for me. I love the people, my Red Raiders, and the sense of community (I could do without the dust storms, however).

I have a spouse of 17 years, and we currently have four kids (all with paws). We became addicted to greyhounds when we moved back to Lubbock from Colorado, and have enjoyed being a part of the local greyhound rescue group for years. Currently residing at our house are two greys, Kylie and Ani. We also have an Italian Greyhound, Martini, who is such a special needs little guy, but we’re smitten with him regardless of his craziness! And last, but not least is Dory, our Chihuahua, which is really a greyhound in disguise. She’s been around greys all her life, so she’s taken on all their characteristics and of course thinks she’s bigger, badder and better than the whole pack!

I love sports of almost any kind, especially watching the extreme athletes who do ridiculously dangerous stuff for sheer enjoyment. I’m addicted to puppy breath (I think I covered that a time or two), and would love to be able to have 10 greyhounds and lots of cats! My happy place is in the mountains, which I’d love to be able to live in when I retire. I also love photography, and may make that part of my retirement income as well. I am also a licensed counselor, so who knows what the future will hold in a few years. I keep telling my vet boss I want to work at AABPCH fulltime when I’ve completed my time with the state, and then I could get puppy breath on a regular basis! Ahhhh…..the simple pleasures.

I hope to see you and your loved pets soon.

Amanda Martinez

I was born and raised in Lubbock, TX. I graduated in 2002 from Frenship High School. I am currently working at Hillman Chiropractic with Dr. Jenna Hillman. Dr. Hillman, also happens to be the animal chiropractor here at the clinic. Dr. Hillman introduced me to the staff here at the pet care hospital. I decided I would pick up something part time so that way I could get some experience with the animal chiropractic side. I took my part time job in May 2015, I found myself realizing that I do have a true passion for pet care. My job as a receptionist is to make sure that you and your pet have a delightful experience.

I have a large family, and wouldn’t have it any other way! My family consists of myself, my husband, John, and our 4 children Zachariah, Mark, Mackayla, and John Adam. We also have 3 dogs Penny, Zoey, and Leo. My husband plays flag football in his spare time, and somehow has convinced me to play on a co-ed softball team. My boys love to play basketball, and football. My princess has a love for basketball and piano.

Renee Mobley

I was born in Luling, TX and lived there until 1984. My family and I moved to Post, TX, where I graduated from high school in 1987. I joined Above and Beyond on November 11, 2014, and before long was made resort lead. I began working in the veterinary industry because of my love for animals and I joined the team here for a fun and exciting new experience. I have been working in the field since 1992, when I started work at another practice as a veterinary technician.

I work on the resort side of the hospital. I make sure all the animals are watered, fed, and medicated (if needed). I take pride in making sure they are clean and smelling great before going home. I truly enjoy everything I do, from doggy daycare to bathing. Most days I go home tired and sometimes covered in dirt or mud but love every second!

I am married to Galen, who is a mechanic, and have two beautiful daughters Michele and Rachael. I have one grandson, Konner, who loves water gun fights! We all really enjoy spending time with each other, mountain biking, and traveling on weekends. I say I haven’t achieved much, but I have raised a wonderful family and enjoy making time for others!
